Remembering Hus

Remembering Hus

This SSHRC-funded (Insight Development Grant, 2015-2018) collaborative project (with partners from the Department of Sociology, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic) investigates the public articulation and contestation of collective memory in an empirical study of the commemoration of Jan Hus in context of the 600th jubilee of the Council of Constance. The project explores the representation of history in public rituals as well as memory practices in Czech and German museums. The project not only aims to make an empirically grounded contribution to the debate on collective memory and cultural identity, but also examines memory tourism as a sociocultural, political, and economic phenomenon.
